The Greeks used the berries in many of their Olympics events because of their belief that the berries increased physical stamina in athletes. Juniper and Rosemary twigs were burnt in French hospitals playing a major part in guarding against contagious diseases such as the plague during the 15 & 16thC. Juniper’s most famous claim is as an ingredient of Gin.
